VZfit Review [gameplay and workout stats]
VZfit is a subscription based VR fitness game with a twist, you can bring your real life exercise bike into the game to compete online or just go for a solo ride anywhere in the world. Here’s my thoughts as I took it for a 180km ride through Yosemite.

Gameplay
VZfit uses a quest headset and google maps to transport you anywhere in the world. You can then traverse these locations with friends using a real life exercise bike or make use of their new hoverboard, where aerobic based exercises will propel you forward.

There’s a few different graphical options, such as mixed reality, 1st person/3rd person views and slideshow/smooth that you can change to meet your own needs and comfort level. I personally used first person with the smooth movement and was blown away by how their use of animations and particles tricks your brain to really feel like you’re actually moving through the world.
I used a Schwinn 700IC which couldn’t be connected to the Quest headset so I also purchased a Garmin Cadence sensor 2, which was attached to the pedal and I used that to connect to my Quest 3 and the VZfit app. This cadence was then used to move me forward in the game.
Those that don’t have access to a bike are still able to play with their hoverboard and instead will need to complete exercises like squats, jogging on the spot or jumping jacks which will be used to propel the player forward.

You can either ride with friends or take make use of their new ring racer mode which will have you competing for a spot on their leaderboard as you complete various activities
Along the way you will earn coins which adds another player of gamification to the mix. You can use these coins to unlock cosmetics which can be used to flex online.
Pricing
VZfit has a subscription model and is priced at $11.99/month with a one week trial or $79.99/year with a two week trial.
Workout potential
Unlike other VR fitness games, with VZfit it is incredibly clear just how good of a workout it can be. Maximum effort spin biking is one of the most challenging cardio vascular exercises there is. To increase fitness intensity you could race others, set up intervals or increase the resistance to replicate hills in real life. Or you could do what I did, and try and punish yourself with an incredibly long ride – like 180km through the Yosemite Valley which took me over 7 hours and burnt around 2,500 calories.
