Gameplay

When it comes to gameplay, Gorn VR is a winner. The game runs smoothly and provides players with plenty of action. You take on the role of a gladiator, tasked with fighting off other gladiators in an arena. The game mechanics are simple, but fun. You have a variety of weapons available to you, including swords, axes, and maces. You can also use your fists to beat your opponents down to the ground. As you progress, you’ll face tougher and tougher opponents, making the game more challenging. The gameplay is definitely one of the highlights of Gorn VR.

Fitness Intensity

Gorn isn’t going to push the boundaries of becoming your go to VR fitness workout. The game is somewhat physically demanding, requiring players to move around and use their arms to move and fight. There is small peaks of intensity when battling multiple enemies but won’t be anywhere near the likes of Thrill of the Fight.

In a study by the VR Institute of health and Fitness found an energy expenditure of 4.99 kcals to 5.54 kcals per minute. This is the equivalent of working at moderate intensity on the elliptical.

Audience Score

When it comes to audience score, Gorn has an overall extremely positive rating on both Steam and the Oculus store. Many players love the game’s over-the-top action and comedic nature. Some players have noted that the game has a steep learning curve and the movement in particular can be frustrating at times. However, those who stick with it tend to enjoy the experience overall. If you’re a fan of fighting games and virtual reality, chances are you’ll enjoy Gorn VR.

Immersion

One of the things that sets Gorn apart from other fighting games is its level of immersion. The graphics are cartoonish, but incredibly well done. The audio is equally impressive, with satisfying sound effects and a bombastic soundtrack. The game’s world is also well-crafted, making you feel like you’re really in a gladiator arena. The level of immersion is definitely top-notch, immersing you completely in the action.

There is also a lot of comedic elements in the game which they add nicely to make the experience more relaxed between the intense fighting.

How Violent is Gorn?

Gorn VR certainly has an element of violence, as many games in the virtual reality fighting genre do. However, it also offers players an “un-violent mode” which turns the blood into candy and the gladiators into pinatas. This makes it possible for younger audiences to enjoy the game without having to worry about being exposed to potentially adult content. The game also has a variety of weapons and enemies to choose from, as well as various challenges to overcome, offering a wide range of entertainment options even without the violent motif.

Replayability

While Gorn VR is a lot of fun, it doesn’t quite have the same level of replayability as other fighting simulations. Once you’ve beaten the game, there’s not a lot of reason to play through it again. That being said, the game is still enjoyable to play through multiple times, especially if you enjoy beating up enemies in creative ways. It’s not quite as open-ended as other games like Skyrim VR or until you fall, but it’s definitely a fun experience while it lasts.

Unfortunately, Gorn does not have a multiplayer mode. It would be great to team up with friends or battle head-to-head against strangers online. The game could add some much needed replayability and provide an even greater challenge for gamers who want to prove their strength in virtual reality. Of course, adding a multiplayer component is no easy task, but if done correctly it could offer a completely new way to experience the game and keep players coming back for more.
